Flexplate
The flexplate is an automatic transmission flywheel, the function is as same as that of the flywheel in the manual transmission vehicle. It is mounted to the crankshaft and connects the output from the engine with the input of a torque converter.
Most flexplates are made of steel plate by stamping, drilling the bolt holes, and then installing the starter ring gear with welding. The flexplate is thinner and lighter than a flywheel, it allows for the expansion of the torque converter when engine RPM increases. Different from the flywheel, the broken flexplate can't be repaired and must be replaced.
