5 Parts That Manual Vehicle Owners Should Consider To Change While Replacing The Clutch

March 22, 2021

Driving a manual vehicle can bring driver lots of fun, notably when shifting gears. In the meanwhile, manual vehicles are much cheaper to purchase.

However replacement of clutch is the task manual vehicle owners cannot avoid.

Depending upon model, the interval time of clutch disc replacement is between 40,000km and 100,000km.

When replacing clutch disc, vehicle owner should consider other related components whether replaced or not at the same time. This would help vehicle owner to save a lot of money.

1, Release bearing

When clutch pedal is depressed, clutch fork engages pressure plate with release bearing.

It allows clutch to rotate freely when changing gears.

The release bearing can be easily worn due to rough use, lack of lubricating oil and improper adjustment of clutch.

We ZNDmotor highly recommend vehicle owners to change release bearing while replacing clutch disc, since the replacement cost is very small.

2, Pressure plate

Changing clutch disc alone is relatively cheaper, but actually, the pressure plate may change your idea regarding replacement.

This is because the springy fingers of pressure plate can crack, bend and lose tension.

So please seriously consider changing pressure plate as well while replacing clutch disc.

3, Slave cylinder

Slave cylinder proves to be a small hydraulic arm which is used to press the clutch fork.

It has only one function: moving in and out when driver presses the clutch pedal.

You may not suppose slave cylinder would be the problem. However in daily use, it will finally leak or seize regardless of service and inspection.

When the transaxle is out, please replace the slave cylinder at the same time.

It is an external component, so if you would not like to change it, that is alright.

4, Clutch fluid

While driving, driver doesn’t want the clutch pedal to stick on the floor when pressing the pedal.

This can take place due to moistness in clutch hydraulic system and corrosion of components.

It is costly to fix these issues. It is easy to prevent corrosion from the inside, and it is achieved through regular service.

When vehicle owner replaces the clutch disc, please ask mechanic to drain, refill and bleed the clutch fluid between master cylinder and slave cylinder.

Besides, changing the fluid regularly when doing service.

5, Transmission fluid

Manual transmission which is relatively durable, still needs proper lubrication and regular maintenance.

When replacing the clutch, please also ask mechanic to drain and refill transmission fluid.

This will be useful and helpful to prevent gear noise as well as gearbox issues.
